Tomato Rasam is a popular South Indian dish which goes great with the dal and rice.
Ingredients:
Tomato – 2
Tur Dal – 1/3 cup
Haldi / Turmeric – a pinch
Ghee – A drop
Curry leaves – 4-5
Coriander Leaves – 1 tbsp (Chopped)
Jaggery – ½ tsp
Tamarind – Lemon size / paste – 1 tbsp
Rasam Powder – 2 tsp (MTR Rasam Powder Tastes better… else u can always prepare it at home)
Salt – As per taste
Seasoning:
Ghee – 1tsp
Mustard Seeds – ½ tsp
Jeera / Cumin Seeds – ½ tsp
Hing / asoefetida – A Pinch
Method:
Boil the dal and the tomatoes in a pressure cooker, mash the cooked dal and set aside.
Make a thick boiling paste, by adding boiled tomato, jaggery, tamarind paste, curry leaves, rasam powder and the salt.
Add the cooked mashed dal to the paste and add 2 cups of water to get the rasam consistency and bring it to boil.
Meanwhile, prepare the seasoning and add it to the rasam.
Garnish with fresh chopped coriander leaves and Serve HOT with white rice…
